Oracles

These small clay beings came into my life in November 2014 with no forethought. Unable to work with my usual mediums that were being shipped from Santa Fe to my New York studio, I unwrapped a package of clay, split the block in half, and pressed the soft malleable substance in my hands and in less than a second, a face appeared and then a body shortly thereafter.

But there was more to this process. The clay figures wanted to speak. Each one told me his/her name and then shared his/her particular story of wisdom. Throughout the winter and into the spring of 2015, forty different figures arrived, each with a different face and a different story.

And I named them the Oracles.

In the summer of 2016, after a drawing workshop in Tuscany, the Oracles became my models. In the process of drawing them, one by one, our connection deepened and I understood it was time to share them and their wisdom.

Oracles Book

Oracles has been produced in a limited edition of 900 copies and a collector’s edition of 100 copies, each signed and numbered by the artist. All the text in this book has been proofed and edited, but oddities and idiosyncratic phrasings that came directly form Oracles have been left unchanged.
