Unsilenced Women
The Council of 5
The five self-portrait charcoal drawings, The Council of 5, examine, contradict, and renounce conventional presentations of beauty and gender. They began my exploration of the visualization of the complex emotional life of a woman that is rarely accepted and therefore rarely depicted in the visual arts. By removing my socially acceptable masks I honor all aspects of my authentic self that my subconscious reveals. I hope my honesty will inspire others to find beauty and truth in their authentic selves.

The Sibyls
The Sibyls alchemically evolved from The Council of 5 work. As the social climate of the United States became more divisive in the late 2010s, I witnessed a shift as the collective female rage, long suppressed, surfaced, and was owned. Women’s voices rose to the forefront as they challenged the patriarchal status quo with #metoo, reproductive rights, and social justice movements among others. The women and girls depicted in this project are derived from myths, histories and lived experience. The work invites the viewer to discover the archetypes within the paintings and within themselves.
