“Making art for me is answering the call of my heart for a deeper connection to the Source of All Life.”
— Amy Conway

With this series I experimented using raw linen as my surface and employing an Old Masters technique of applying layers of dry pigment mixed with a natural binder onto the linen.

Blue is a contemplative color, a spiritual color, and to me all the mysteries are embedded in blue which led to my exploration of this particular shade, called Anthraquinone Blue in this watercolor series.

As the social climate of the United States became more divisive in the late 2010’s, I witnessed a shift as the collective female rage was owned. Women’s voices rose to the forefront as they challenged the patriarchal status quo. I used my art as my voice to reflect this rage.

In the Color Synergy series I free my mind allowing my intuition to guide my hands and inform my palette. When patterns emerge and color harmony is achieved I know I have touched something greater than myself and the painting is complete.

Forty clay figures emerged spontaneously over the course of six months. Each one told me its name and shared its wisdom. The primitiveness of their forms, reminiscent of the early stone age figures, denotes the timeless wisdom they have come to share.

Artist Statement

I like to work spontaneously. A word, a color, an image or an idea will spark my imagination and off I go, following my creative impulse to wherever it leads me. I use the materials I have on hand as my enthusiasm, (enthousiasmos Greek meaning having a god within) is impatient and must be tended to immediately. This connection to what I call the Divine enlivens me, I am in a state of pure joy and happiness knowing that something greater than myself is flowing through my hands and my mind and I continue until my inner knowing tells me the work is complete. When I step back and witness my creation, whether I find the end result aesthetically pleasing, provocative or mystical, I trust the process. I present my work confident that it will speak to those who are ready to receive it.
